Hakkında çok fazla şey söyleyemeyeceğim bir uzun öykü Her Yerden Çok Uzakta. Le Guin ile konuşmaya ihtiyacım vardı ve kendimi bu kitabı okurken buldum, bir günde de bitti. Ancak böyle kısa bir kitabın beni bu kadar etkileyeceğini tahmin etmiyordum. On yedi yaşındaki Owen'ın hayatına konuk oluyor ve onun ağzından ağzından ailesini, çevresini, hayatla ilgili düşüncelerini, hayallerini ve özellikle de Natalie'yi, onunla olan arkadaşlığını dinliyoruz. Fazla gerçek, fazla anlaşılır, boyutuna rağmen oldukça fazla duygu içeren bir kitap bu. İlerleyen yıllarda tekrar tekrar okuyacağıma şüphem yok.

"...aslında pek fazla akıl yürütmüyor, fazla bir şey hissetmiyordum. Artık hiçbir şey o kadar önemli gelmiyordu bana. Acıdan uzak durmak, bütün her şey bunun içindi sanki. Görüşmemizin bir yararı yoktu. Yalnızdım. Zaten her zaman yalnızdım ben. Bir süre onunla birlikteyken yalnız değilmişim gibi davranmıştım ama öyleydim. Ve sonunda bunu ona da kanıtlamış, ötekiler gibi Natalie'yi de bana sırt çevirmeye mecbur etmiştim. Gerçekten önemi yoktu bunun. Yalnız mıydım, o zaman rol yapacağım yerde bunu kabullenirdim daha iyiydi. Böyle bir topluma uyum sağlayamayan biriydim. Birinin benden hoşlanmasını beklemek aptallıktı. Hem benim neyimden hoşlanacaklardı ki? Koca beynimden mi? Sarsıntıya uğramış şu gösterişli, koca beynimden mi? Beyinden kimse hoşlanmaz..."

Atypical for Ursula Le Guin: I have read many of her science fiction and fantasy novels, and never encountered anything like this. She writes here in first person, in the voice of a contemporary boy, and it's strange for the reader who is used to her other work to discover this. I found it an excellent little novel about the disconnection and difficulties of being young and different from your peers or parents. It was published in the 70s, and at times does feel a little dated, but overall it's a compelling book that still resonates with the reader. I wish I had found this ten years ago when I was seventeen myself.

I liked this book. I feel like our protagonist, Owen, has depression and maybe something else going on, or maybe not. I know I saw a lot of my thoughts and feelings in his, and I empathized with him. I feel like the ending is a hair quick, and I am left wanting a follow-up book talking about his life and his friend Natalie's lives. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I read this book when I was a teen and remember being very touched by it. I really identified with the struggles the characters were having, particularly the decisions that they faced about their lives after high school.
