What a war! All the action and fighting and planning. I like how Yarros utilizes the dragons more in this book, especially Andarna (more frequent remarks that I found so funny and at the end). I don't see the romance as wanting to replicate the first book. I see it more as a romantic relationship that goes through tests of trusts. I do find it annoying and a bit controlling when Xaden expects Violet to ask him the correct questions in order for him to offer her the information she wants. And some of her remarks about Xaden became repetitive (though this may also be a me-thing, as I find too much mushy-gushy stuff in romance novels to be overbearing and annoying).

Super disappointed. Absolutely no more plot, it's messy, immature and focuses too much on the romantic interest for me. The random sex scene pull me out of the story (I skip them) and the pace is super slow for very little actual plot happening. I couldn't push myself to finish it; it was a significant downfall from the first book.

Absolutely mind blowing sequel! I loved seeing more of the character development and story progression! This book had me hooked from the start, just like Fourth Wing.

I was excited to read this book after the cliffhanger of the first one. I was disappointed how the protagonist seemed to have turned into a bratty, immature teenager compared to the intelligent and compassionate character I came to know and love in the first book.
The book was repetitive at times overexplaining goings-on that the reader was already aware of. Stating that Andarna is a teenager and thus rebellious behavior is to be expected after every other sentence she says was annoying to me.
Writting a fantasy book of this magnitude in such a short amount of time after publishing book number one is quite a feat. The book would have benefitted from more editing in my opinion. But I did like the overall storyline and intrigue and hope the author will take more time for book number three

Was pretty slow and painful having to listen to the 2 main characters argue for majority of the book. I wish there was more character development and better world building. In saying that, I still cried at the end and really enjoy when the book is went into fun, adventurous plot lines.

What. Even. I have to wait until DECEMBER? I really can’t. The ending of this book is such a cliffhanger and a twist I was not anticipating. I enjoyed this book, but felt some of it could’ve been condensed. I also felt that some of the magic wasn’t explained as well as I would’ve liked, but all in all, this was a good part 2. The characters are embedded in my heart now, and I hope they all have a happy ending.
