Low-key predictable. I like the cousins, but the parents with the A names were hard to keep track of lol. The ending did do it's job but ehhhh I dunno felt a bit underwhelming. I did enjoy the book though 👍 Oh and the incest plot... Urrrrm could have done without it to be honest 😀 (But they're cute in the end I guess)

This was a fun YA mystery about a historic family inheritance, three young teens whose summer gets ruined, and their disowned parents.

Three 17-year-old cousins are summoned to their reclusive grandmother’s island twenty-four years after she abruptly disowned their parents. Everyone has secrets they’re keeping. The premise is interesting, but the delivery falls short. The plot meanders along for the first two-thirds or so, and I found the climax rather underwhelming.
Two and a half stars rounded up to three.

Thank you to Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the electronic arc.

Family first, always - a charming sentiment. How far would you go to protect your family? This book explores the struggles of familial relations and unearths the shocking secrets held close to the chests of members of the Story family. It poses an important question, despite the trials and tribulations of family, would you still protect their secrets?

Finally managed to finish this book. The slow buildup made the story a bit predictable and so, I wasn’t quite surprised by the revelation at the end. All in one, it was a good and interesting read. Even though this one in particular wasn’t as engaging as the other books I’ve read by Karen McManus, she truly knows how to write mystery novels. Regardless, I still enjoyed it.

this could've gone without the romance. entirely. especially since it's between 2 characters pretending to be related and really brought nothing to the table except for an epilogue. it gave me the ick the entire time and I felt the characters had little to no chemistry.
