<spoilers>
I ended up putting down this book because it was triggering for me personally. I'm very sensitive when it comes to animal abuse. There was two scenes that happened before I decided to put it down that included animal abuse. The first thing was a character drowned some of his puppies because he "couldn't afford it" although later on he ends up giving some of them away which makes me question why he felt the need to drown the other puppies. The second thing, being the one that made me stop reading the book is basically this old guy has his dog, who is very old but still trucking along with him. Another character has despise against the old guys dog so he tries to convince him to, in simple terms put down his dog and tries to make it seem that it would do the dog better if so. The old man is very hesitant and is clearly uncomfortable with it. Saying that he had the dog for years and he wouldn't know what to do without him. Eventually, the side character convinces the old man to end the dog's life. So the side character took the dog outside and shot it in it's head. Which was very emotional for me to read so I had to put it down for my own sake. Another thing that made me feel ill towards the book is the racism. the n word is used constantly throughout the book which made me very uncomfortable, now I know this book is old and times were different but I didn't feel okay reading it. With all of these things, I realized there was no good reason for me to continue this book.

Classical novel. It was rather boring to me although it is thought intriguing and sad. I just knew what was coming. Very short though.
