This was a starkly contrasting novel in comparison to the original Lorien Legacy series. First and foremost, the characters aren’t introduced cautiously and organically, but are rather thrown into the readers face, as we start off with 4 different POVs. Which is normal and fine usually, but felt awkward in this world and vastly different from what I expected. Second, the stakes are considerably lowered as our new cast of heroes are no longer fighting for the survival of the world as we know it and instead are merely fighting smaller battles. Untrained and green, these heroes are thrust into the throes of battle against their greatest enemy — themselves.

Overall, if you’re yearning for a return to the world Pittacus Lore splendidly illustrated in the Lorien Legacies, this novel isn’t for you. Besides our devilishly handsome and favorite Garde Nine — this is a new generation with new battles to fight and the background with the Mogadorian Invasion might as well not even have occurred for its importance in this novel and the lives of most of the characters. As lovely as it was hearing Nine’s vivid insults again, this remained your average “teens with superpowers fight supposed bad guys” novel with its stereotypical tropes — nothing remotely close to the magnificence of its predecessor series. Nonetheless, if read for pure entertainment and without begetting comparison to the Lorien Legacies, it still remains a fairly mediocre and passable work of fantasy.

Great start to another series in the I Am Number Four world! This book follows human guard who developed legacies during and after the invasion. The human guard are sent to an academy run in part by Nine and Malcom Goode. Full of action and intrigue!

I enjoyed this but it really didn’t get going til right at the end. There are too many new characters and not enough explanations about what’s going on - you’re left to assume a fair bit. I’m looking forward to more though as the end held real promise about where this is going.

I've read the entirety of the Lorien Legacies and the Lorien Legacies Reborn multiple times, and each time I enjoy it more. I wholeheartedly believe my favourite scene in the whole series is where Isabella imitates Nine to beat the challenge.

Some of the characters irked me a little, and I think there was a bit of an odd change to Nine's personality to make some of the plot worked. All the characters do have some interesting motivations for the actions they take.

in all honesty, generation one wasn't nearly as good as i'd hoped. the i am number four series was so much better - the characters were more interesting and relatable. as for generation one, this book was extremely rushed.

i found it difficult to connect to the main characters, or to even like them, as every time i nearly did there was a chapter change. it really doesn't help that there's so many of them. (pretty much the same issue i had with i am number four). one thing that i loved about having so many characters is the use of so many different cultures. i like that not everything is about america (not everything, but still mostly).

the general concept of generation one was really interesting. it flows really well going from united as one to this book - the continuation is instant. 'normal' people getting loric powers?! count me in! aside from that, i do wish it were a little more original and not as similar to the other series. and the government is still mostly shit (i see a trend coming on here, lore).

i wish it had less to do with the original i am number four characters. as much as i love these characters, it made it a lot harder to connect with the new ones as i just wanted to read about my old favs. another issue i had was that it felt like they were thrown in for guest appearances in order to keep the readers happy and interested.
