The main storyline, the new sheriff finding a missing girl, with the help of her teenage daughter, was paced well, with the right amount of twists and turns.

But. There was way too much rape in the secondary storyline. While one is described and discussed as a rape. There are three times in which the main character is in a sexual moment that is very sexual forced, rape, or just not giving consensual. Let alone one of them is between a 14 year old and a 18 year old.

I listened to the audiobook at 1.6 speed. I didn't want to totally abandon it, so it's probably a 2.5 star rating. So the big mystery I figured out half way thru the book? Not resolved in this volume (eye roll). I'll skip the next in the series.

I've missed having a Darynda Jones book to read/listen to so this was a treat. The story is classic Darynda full of snark and mystery. I loved the fact that Darynda teamed up with Lorilei King again for the audible book. These ladies know how to keep your attention with their storytelling and narration. A Bad Day for Sunshine does not disappoint.

Maybe I just wasn't the target audience of this book but it really didn't work for me. Many things just didn't make a lot of sense in this book and the main character drooling after every other guy was not particularly enjoyable to read.

So, I actually like this book and the characters, but there is a part of the plot that wasn’t mentioned in the summary that makes me anxious each time it’s brought up. So, I decided to not finish the book at this time. Maybe one day in the future I’ll pick it up again! I’ve read mystery books like this before, but I’m just unable to finish this one.

I feel like it could have used some more refining by an editor. There was also of characters and subplots that, while were useful for setting up material for the series, weren't necessary to tell this story. I also thought the dialogue came across as kind of choppy and sometimes the transition from dialogue to inner monologue was confusing.
