Pacing felt slow at times but besides that, I enjoyed it. I feel like the whole concept of the book club got lost in the midst of the everyday life stuff. Maybe the title should've been different? Still, I enjoyed it! Inspiring to me with where I'm at right now.

The title definitely drew me in on this one. It’s currently summer and I love a book club book!

The audiobook, narrated by Tanya Eby was well narrated and easily gave voice to the characters. The story itself took me a fair while to get into, I didn’t relate all that much with the characters so that didn’t help engagement on my end but that’s more of a me issue than the book itself.

There was sprinkles of intrigue enough to keep me listening and the central plot was well written. I get a bit confused at times with the characters and which was attached to which storyline, it took me ages to get to know their names for some reason but again, my own issue and understanding.

The book club wasn’t as central as I would have hoped for, and I feel like it was hardly mentioned enough to be given the title of the book. Also, I didn’t particularly get the summer vibes either so I was a bit wrongly set up for what the book delivered but taking that out, the book was an lovely romance, contemporary fiction with some amazing friends, great character plots and a good ending!

I enjoyed it but my engagement could have been higher but can’t fault the audiobook or the writing itself!

Thank you to the author and publisher for this audiobook on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.

I enjoyed it, it was cute, I have been reading lots of sad and dramatic books, so I wanted to read something light and this hit the spot!

Susan Mallery is comfort reading for me. I love her books. I listened to this one and I didn’t love the narrator. And the story was repetitive at times but there’s friendship, cute kids, a dog, redemption, growth, forgiveness and an 80s romance book club! So much fun revisiting some of my favorite authors of the past!

To be honest, I was looking for a light read. And the title appealed to me. Having facilitated a book club for 12 years, this sounded like something that would be a delightful experience. I wondered if I would meet a group of interesting women who love to read and talk about books.

Well, the theme of the summer book club was secondary in that they read mysteries one summer, old-time science fiction the next and 80s romances, in the last one. It really didn’t play much into the storyline other than what they were reading.

This was really a story about second chances in life and love. And what the women did with it.

And yes, it was a light read with serious issues for the women to overcome and recognize their strength along the way. If this appeals to you, it will be a somewhat satisfying read.
