This might be a silly book, except for one important detail. It is entirely correct: chicken soup with rice is great at any time of the year and in any place, no matter how ridiculous. Sure, maybe that sounds a lot like a cult. But here’s the thing: if the cult comes with chicken soup with rice, who really cares that it’s a cult?

A fine book of months, if fairly repetitive. A favorite in our household for sometime but possibly because Phil cooks a mean Chicken Soup with Rice. And really hard to read without hearing the echo of the Carole King version of this book in particular.

Five stars just for the title - chicken soup with rice, love a book that features the title at least twice on every page.

This book will always reminds me of my childhood, especially in third grade, where we all sang the song that went with the book in music class. Good times.

My youngest went on a Maurice Sendak binge in the spring/summer of 2013 and we got this one from the library. We were familiar with the video/Carole King song and reading it without singing was pretty much impossible. Still, love Sendak's art and imagination as always.

It's always nice too read a book by someone who is very famous for one particular work, a book that is not the famous work - this is the case here.
A decent book, but of course overshadowed by WTWTA but perhaps we need to let the author go beyond that work, to misquote a TV series and let Barlet be Barlet!
