I struggled to stay invested in the story. The spicy scenes were well written, the storyline and plot itself lacked for me.

I was also not a fan of the body-shaming, and self-loathing fatphobic remarks the FMC routinely made... The MMC at point found it hard to believe the FMC had once been fat because her body was unmarked by stretch marks and cellulite.

This type of trope/mindset, or unnecessary ideals, [however you want to call it] penciled into books, does nothing for anyone struggling to feel sexy and comfortable in their own skin.

When this series was introduced as a serial novel and released a section at a time on Amazon, I anxiously awaited the final installment to be released. I refuse to purchase a small section at a time and have to wait a week before we get the next one. I want all of my story at once. I am bad when it comes to serial novels.

I had heard that this series was hot, sexy and worth the Buy Now click on Amazon. Sadly, I can honestly say that I wish I would have forgotten about this book. I had to force myself to even finish reading this book. That is a sad thing when you love to read and you have to force yourself to make it to that final page. I could not bring myself to enjoy the dominant ways of Ian Noble. He could be sweet at times, but overall he was a pushy prick. Yes, I went there. He was cold and nothing about him appealed to my romantic side. When it came to Francesca Arno, she was the naive virgin that had so many conflicts in her character that I was getting whiplash trying to keep up with them. One minute she is the sweet virgin unsure of herself, then the next page she is all of a sudden the sexy temptress teasing the men. I think my eyes rolled more at the stupidity of her actions than it did in boredom.

While many people enjoyed this series, I will not be one to read it again or any future stories involving these characters. If I had to force it the first time, I certainly won’t force it again.

This book, Because You Are Mine, was originally written as a serial where two chapters were published every two weeks. I picked it up when it was compiled in to the full novel and was so very happy I did because Beth Kery did an absolutely fabulous job with the pacing that if I had to wait a week for what came next in the story I would have gone mad. There has definitely been an uptick in virgin heroine/billionaire hero stories but I loved how exciting and likeable the characters were. Francesca is a 23 year old artist who was chosen to paint a picture for the lobby of Noble Enterprises, owned by billionaire Ian Noble. Francesca can’t deny her instant attraction but Ian is a force to be reckoned with and is unlike anyone she has every interacted with. Ian knows exactly what he’s looking for, no relationship just sex, and even though he thinks that he may be too much for her, he can’t let Francesca go. He led them on a journey of sexual awakening for Francesca and emotional discovery for Ian. Neither of them could have ever guessed the joy and fulfillment they could have found in what started as a purely physical relationship. Ms. Kery does a fabulous job with the naughtiness and she brings a wonderful emotion and growth to the characters. Great read and I’m excited for more in this series! (Next book will feature new characters, not a continuation of the Francesca/Ian story)

This book pained me personally. I wish I could have allowed myself to stop. This book was a loan from a friend who REALLY wanted me to read it. I think she should honestly pay for my therapy because this type of book is not my speed at ALL. I need a plot and quite honestly, this is 75% horniness with a dash of plot development at the end. It's one thing if y'all REALLY like your sex scenes, it's another if you can't tell what the characters are beyond a trope, I have a problem with it.

Also rant (may include spoilers, so beware):

I cannot stand the fact that the main two love interests solve all their fights with just "You'll be punished for this" and continue on. Don't get me wrong, y'all like to have a variety but hooking up everywhere is not my speed. I need even SLIGHT character development but nothing made sense characterwise for the first 200 PAGES. Like, sir, the male main character whose name I've repressed, you barely met this girl and you're already sexualizing her but you manage to swing between "She's a child sexually, mentally, or otherwise, I can't do this" to "I must have her, she's mine". It's got ALLL the cringy Wattpad themes of a 12-year-old's writing combined with logic at the most random moments and I can't tell what the author's intentions were plotwise beyond scenes to make someone reading over your shoulder question your sanity. Like FOR GOODNESS's SAKE, y'all CALM DOWN.

Anyways, yeah....not my speed. If you want very little development for a long period of time, like trashy romance for the sake of trashy romance, this one's for you.

The second in the Because You Are Mine serial novel by Beth Kery released today, (YAY!!!!) Because I Could Not Resist (Because You Are Mine 2). The first two in the series were given to me as an ARC by the publisher for review.

This book is being marketed and compared to Fifty Shades of Grey as well as Bared To You by Sylvia Day. There are certainly similarities: A mega-rich gorgeous Dom with stalker tendencies, and an innocent, young, intelligent woman. But this book is broken into weekly “episodes” of about 50 pages or two chapters a week. This is a different way of reading, and it can be cool, because we can all read each part together then come back and chat about it!

Because You Are Mine 1, Because You Tempt Me was the introduction. Because I Could Not Resist continues right where it left off. We left Ian and Francesca in the fencing room. Things were getting really hot when an interruption occurs, then an argument between Ian and Francesca leads her to stalk out and go have a wild and reckless night out with her 3 male roommates. Until Ian catches her, and decides to punish her, which Francesca willingly submits to.

There is a good amount of ‘punishment’ in this book, and it got pretty hot, but to me, there was a LOT of hitting and not enough smexing (or at least teasing). I also thought it was a bit quick how Francesca submitted to it all so quickly. I’m just not getting that melty feeling from him that makes me feel like I would do the same if I were her.

Again, this book is so hard to rate! It is only 1/8 of the whole story. I am enjoying the book, I can’t wait to get to next week’s, but I’m not in LOVE yet.

Likes:

-Francesca’s relationship with her guy roommates.
-How tightly Ian holds on to his self control, you see how he is about to lose it.
-How involved in her work Francesca gets, and her devotion to it.
-Francesca’s weight-related issues made her seem real.
-The custom paddle ;-D~

Dislikes:

-Ian was so observant of paint on her fingers, but was shocked when she was wet!?
-(related) Why didn’t he check sooner?
-There was a whole lot of paddling and spanking for a newbie. I didn’t see what Ian had done to make him deserve her trust and loyalty to submit to that yet.
-The word “turgid”. I have always hated that word.
-The same exact preview of Wicked Burn as the first book.

My Rating:

How do you rate a ‘part’ of a book? I can’t wait to read more, but there were a few issues I had. I haven’t fallen in love with Ian yet, so I can’t give a 5. Though there wasn’t a super hot sex scene yet, the punishment scene was pretty darn hot! Beth writes a damn good sex scene, though a little flowery in her wording. I would say 3.75 stars, and 4 heat, but I feel like I don’t even want to upload those graphics because they won’t reflect a rating of a whole story.

I do recommend this serial novel. It is similar to Fifty Shades and Bared to You, and the previews of the rest of the books look like it’s going to get even better. Beth Kery writes amazing Erotic novels with BDSM elements, so I know this serial will get better and better.

Come, read it with me! That is the point of a serial. It is meant to be read, then discussed on social media, like a weekly TV series.

Beth Kery has been hangin’ with me at Ana’s Attic and she is answering questions (mine and yours) and giving away an installment of her book each week, so check out this week’s Beth Kery Interview and Giveaway and ask a question to enter to win any book from this serial!

**ARC of Because You Are Mine 1, Because You Tempt Me was provided by the publisher. This serial novel has been called the next Fifty Shades. I can see why. Rich, dominant billionaire tycoon meets young innocent college girl. But this is told in a different way. Each “book” is essentially 2 chapters of an 8 part serial novel to be released weekly through October 2012. It’s more like a BDSM romance themed weekly TV series!

Francesca is a masters student in Fine Arts and has won a competition for a commission in the lobby of Ian Noble’s new Skyscraper. Since she had to fill out a lengthy application for the competition, Ian knows a lot about Francesca. Probably a lot more than is on her application as well.

When they meet at the cocktail party in her honor, it’s obvious sparks begin to fly. Francesca has some totally inappropriate thoughts and finds herself reacting to him differently than she has ever reacted before.

Ian, it seems is having the same reaction (judging by his really hot masturbation scene), and though he tries to fight it, apparently the pull is pretty strong.

I am finding it so hard to review this as its own entity because it isn’t, it is just a piece of the whole, and this installment is just the beginning, setting the groundwork for the rest of the series. But what there was certainly made me want to begin the next immediately, and luckily the publisher provided me with the first two! And believe me, it was worth waiting a week for.

Likes:

-Good set-up to a story.
-The beginnings of what look to be SUPER hot scenes.
-It is not just a lady porn series, this one was just a preview of the sex, but we got to meet the characters and get to know them.
-I really like Francesca.
-I am curious to know more about “the cat” reference.

Dislikes:

-Too short! I would have liked to see a bit more for $1.99 each, or at least this one should have a cheaper 99 cent introductory price.
-Waiting for the next.
-I haven’t totally fallen for Ian……yet.

I am going to hold off on a rating this on the blog until I review Because You Are Mine 2, or even wait to read more. On sites where I have to, I will give it a 5 but I really don’t feel I can review such a small part of a larger work. Since I have read and loved other Beth Kery books, I can tell I’ll love it though.

The second half of this book is a preview of Wicked Burn, and the preview is as long as the book, but that’s OK because the preview is TOTALLY hot, and for me, I enjoyed reading it even more than when I read the whole book the first time! My review, as well as the gift my husband bought me after is on the blog.

Beth Kery is also visiting Ana's Attic Sexy Tales every release day (Tuesdays through September 18) to give away one of her installments and answer YOUR questions, starting right now!

Finally a book by this author that I couldn't put down. I have had my ups and downs with this author but she seemed to nail this perfectly. Ian and Francesca have undeniable chemistry that heats up the pages almost immediately. Because you are mine is a intense and erotic read which thrilled me to my toes. His dominance and her snarkiness was an absolute great combo and I read it straight through in one sitting. I would definately recommend this to any and all...HOT read!!
