this book, reading it right now, is making my brain explode. but explode-a-little-less, as suddenly things begin to make a vague sense. or to be joined in a choreography of vagueness. i'm currently engrossed in the depressing reality of how fleeting a satisfying activist life seems, and when i use the word activist its with the taken-for-granted idea that no part of myself and my intersections are left behind, i'm thinking of myself in the pat parker sense that one does. to live at that intersection is to have a frustrating relationship to time. i feel beset by thick heavy presences in absentia, doomed to relive the past, all that hauntology shit. reading this book is making me feel closer to irretrievable social loss. blah...

This is a foundational block in my own view on queerness, politics, and society. It's been years since I last read it, and I still think about it on a regular basis. RIP Muñoz, may you never fall into the no-longer-conscious

Un libro interesante si lo que te llama la atención es la cultura y el arte queer. Pero no es un gran tratado sobre lo queer ni menos sobre la utopía, sino más bien una colección de ensayos donde relata las vidas y el arte de personajes queer (90% de ellos varones gay), y analiza su producción desde la perspectiva de los estudios culturales y lo queer. Sus divagaciones teóricas nunca son extensas ni elaboradas, y muchas veces se reducen a decir que “esto es como lo qué tal autor llamó equis”, sin profundizar. Aún así, resulta relevante su representación extensa y poco directa sobre lo que es una utopía queer (actos provocativos, sin sentido determinado o no alineados a lo productivo, sin temporalidad, sin lugar fijo, más bien orientadas hacia abrir posibilidades y futuros donde abunde una pluralidad de placeres y formas de vivir fuera de lo que actualmente es la norma).
