⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Clarissa Fray's rather 'mundane' night triggers a series of domino effects when she is the witness to a supernatural murder. As the days progress, she learns about the #shadowworld, a completely different realm that co-exists to ours consisting of #downworlders who are half demon folk and of #shadowhunters who are trained hunters meant to protect the humans from anything and everything that goes bump in the night.

When her mother goes missing and she is attacked by a rather nasty demon, she is taken under the wing of the New York Institute of Shadowhunters consisting of three teenagers; Jace Wayland, Alec and Isabelle Lightwood and their tutor, Hodge Starkweather.

They engage in a race against time to find the Mortal Cup- an instrument of pure angelic power which was hidden by Clary's Mom as they grapple demons, vampires, team up with werewolves and of course; Magnus Bane.

Clary gets thrown head first into everything her mother hast tried to keep away from her by taking away her memories and she adapts to it in a rather slow and realistic way.

City of Bones is a fast paced, humorous and interesting book that will make you scream, cry and laugh out loud. You will fall for the characters and feel through the pages what they are going through.

And of course #malec

I think that this book was a good start to The Mortal Instruments and will always be a favourite of mine. Although this is one of Cassie's earlier work and isn't one of the best written in the series it still improves throughout the book.

Glad I re-read this, I want to finish the series and I'd forgotten so much. Started off a bit... cheesy. Clary is not very relatable now that I'm older.. but.. she gets better, and by the end.. the adventure and world building, and action had me hooked again.

Let Cassandra Clare be proof that being smart and well read does not automatically make someone a good writer.

Whyyyyy did she have to do the plot twist w the two main characters I hate it so much 😩 other than that I love this world but ugh that one thing just is so weird and unnecessary
