Clary believes she is a normal teenager until one night when she's at a club with her best friend Simon, she witnesses a murder that no one else could even see. Soon after that, her mother is abducted and Clary learns that she is Shadowhunter. She quickly realizes that she has been lied to for much of her life. Of course a love interest is introduced, but there are some things about Jace that neither of them know about. Clary finds herself being apart of something much bigger than her missing mother.
I quickly fell in love with this series! It reminds me Harry Potter, but older characters and more love interest. I became attached to these characters so I continued reading to find out what happens to them. Sometimes it gets a bit confusing, but overall the plot was very interesting. Personally, I'm not a big fan of all the lovey-dovey feelings, but there isn't too much that it's unbearable.

“Seeing through glamour is easy. It’s people that are hard.”

“To love is to destroy, and to be loved is the one to be destroyed.”

Being introduced to the world that Cassandra Clare created for the first time was thrilling. I know I would have loved this book so much if I read it back in high school. The world building is delightful yet I can tell it’s not quite done. Although at times I felt like some people and parts were added in too quickly without more explanation, it still left me wanting to know more. The magic system and the types of creatures that were introduced makes for what could be an amazing fantasy series. I enjoyed the characters a lot and of course, the plot twists throughout. ALTHOUGH the plot-twist with Clay and J.C. definitely caught me off guard and idk how I feel about it. Alec and Isabelle are great side characters to start and I hope we get more of them for an even better understanding of who they are. Simon is top notch. Luke, as mad as I was at him, was probably my favorite outside of Jace and Clary. The villain has great potential to be the absolute worst and I can’t wait to figure out where the story continues with these characters.

Pure nostalgia made me love this book. It perfectly encapsulates the 2010 era. Still didn’t get why they needed to be siblings

I don't know how it's possible that I haven't read this series until now. This book was a TIME but I still enjoyed it.
