Before rating this graphic novel I wanted to wait and read the following volumes, so to have a better opinion of it. However, I find myself thinking about it, it got me very curious and the story is intriguing. Although this is just the first volume and it mostly introduces this world and the plot, I liked it a lot.
Absolutely recommended.

A great story developing here. It may make you think back to that unfortunate movie, A.I. because the main character is a boy-robot, but it is a much more interesting story.
I love it mostly due to the artwork. Each panel and page is a beautiful watercolor painting which gives the story a dreamy feel.
This review is for the entire series, and I'm somewhat surprised that I finished the whole thing. I like some of the art, and I guess I'm an absolute sucker for stories about AI and robots, especially ones that have gained sentience.
I found the dialogue dopey, the plotting tiresome, and the characters even more tiresome than the plot. There is an awful lot of action, but many of the action sequences feel sloppy and underdeveloped. Many of the details didn't make much sense, and the resolution was half-baked.
I am surprised that this series has received some of the praise that it has. I would not recommend it.

Beautiful watercolor work!
Another book revolving around the questioning of an AI's humanity.
Very well done.
It is pairing well with me watching "Raised By Wolves Season 2"

Descender tells the story of a boy robot named Tim-21 and his companions who are trying to keep him alive after the government has waged an all-out war against robots. Tim's situation isn't helped by the fact that the government has discovered that his coding may hold a connection between him and the gigantic robots that attacked humans and caused the war to begin in the first place.
I feel like the first thing that I have to mention about this book is the art work because it is stunning. The art has a watercolor effect that works perfectly with the story and every panel looks beautiful. The way Tim is depicted is perfect because even though you know he is a robot, he looks so childlike and innocent and you can't help but sympathize with him. The story is also very interesting and Jeff Lemire does a great job of introducing you to this strange world without overwhelming you with information. This was such a lovely book and I really think it's a story that anyone can enjoy, even people who don't normally read sci-fi. I will definitely be continuing on with this series.

so beautifully drawn - nice to have another space opera to read alongside Saga / not so nice for my bank balance to have another space opera to read alongside Saga
Can't wait to read the next two and any that follow!
As a sci-fi fan, I enjoyed this. It was a quick read but I liked the story.
This was a great opening arc to a fascinating story.
The world building of Descender is pretty interesting as it takes place in a galaxy where humans have spread out over many star systems. The society has a twisted past with robots as several mysterious ones lead to a large genocide. Then a single robot appears with code resembling that of those which had previously killed so many people. Mysteries and twists propel this book into very interesting waters straight out of the gate.
The watercolor-like artwork is fantastic, and everything else aside I would read almost anything Jeff Lemire writes at this point.
