When a group of archeologists discover bones that appear to be more modern than ancient DCI Harry Nelson and Dr. Ruth Galloway find themselves working together to try and piece together the clues.
Emotions are high when it is confirmed that the bones are those of a young girl who went missing thirty years ago and there are also links to the first case that Nelson and Ruth worked on together in The Crossing Places.

I loved how this mystery circled back to the first book, but honestly by this point I am just here for Nelson and Ruth drama.

This is the 11th book in the series featuring forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway. These books are enjoyable - easy to read and I always know what I’m getting when I pick one up. In this one, Nelson starts receiving cryptic notes about the 'stone circle'. Meanwhile Ruth is helping with a dig when bones are found that turn out to be those of a teenage girl that had gone missing thirty years before. I still very much enjoy the dynamic between the characters and how all the relationships are going, but the mystery part of this one just didn’t make any sense to me. I kept reading just to find out what was going on between Ruth and Nelson, but the rest of the storyline was too unbelievable. I will keep reading them however. I’m too invested in Ruth and Nelson to give up now!

Another lovely entry to the Ruth Galloway series. There's a second archeological dig at the henge from the first book, more bones are found both modern and ancient. Ruth gets called in to examine both - there are many echoes of past cases as they try to solve the murder of a young girl who went missing the day Diana and Charles got married. And present day romantic complications remain complicated, which is also true to life.

Ruth Galloway no 11

I had the audiobook read by Jane McDowell there were some distracting mouth noises, but otherwise the narration is good.

This book evolves around a 30 year old cold case of 12 yr old Margaret Lacey whose bones are found in a salt marsh henge dig lead by Leif Erik’s son along with Ruth. It is intertwined with a modern day case too.

This is my comfort series, the characters and their relationships are as important as the crimes. The plot has a good complexity with lots of revelations some criminal some personal. I just love the characters and their relationships. They have their flaws but remain endearing,  the author avoids being judgemental about their behaviour.
The ends of the cases are all neatly tied up, there are hints for the future on the personal front giving the reader something to look forward to in the next book.
