Gives a more in depth accounting of the events, people, and cultural context surrounding the chernobyl explosion than the popular show, definitely worth a read if you're interested in chernobyl.

I have read a lot about Chernobyl and this is far and the best book to cover the subject. I couldn’t put it down. Well researched. I can’t wait to read more by this author. A fantastic book. Well done!

An absolutely fascinating book! Really helped to clarify what exactly happened in 1986 in a way that was understandable to me. Humanized everyone involved with this disaster.

Exhaustively well-researched and interesting throughout.
In particular, I appreciated that the author was able to explain everything a reader needed to understand about nuclear power plant operation, different models, the role different materials play in the reaction, etc., in a way that was somehow both accessible and did not drastically dumb down the subject. This explanation - very early in the book - is crucial to understanding and following along with a lot of what is described later, and I never felt left behind or in over my head.
