Amazing audiobook. Her childhood was unfortunately so relatable and hit me hard. I don't watch TV or movies much so I didn't know her but I'm definitely a big fan now. This was beautiful written.

This was the best book and it's WONDERFUL on Audible. I see why Mrs. Viola Davis won a Grammy for it. It blessed me!

Viola gets all of the flowers for this autobiography.

She was completely open and unfiltered. I love that we are reading how she finds herself and her voice is so powerful in this book. I love that she took the power to write this about her life. I cannot imagine the courage it must have taken to write something so vulnerable.

She had me in tears by the 3rd chapter and laughing at the end.

I recommend you do the full experience of having her voice in the audiobook read this to you as you follow along with a physical copy. It will completely grip you.  This without a doubt is my favorite read of the year. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

This was really good! I honestly knew nothing about her when I picked this up, I just liked her as an actress. I didn’t realize the life she lived and how amazing and inspiring that makes her. This has some really dark topics, but there’s a lot of light as well. I really enjoyed her talking about healing her younger self. This did make me tear up when she was talking about her father dying and how they see the ones that passed before they go. I’m excited to watch more things she’s in because I realize I haven’t seen all that much.

I always find it challenging to review a memoir but this was an excellent listen (which isn’t surprising since it won a Grammy. )I didn’t know much about Viola Davis before picking this up but I did walk away with a ton of respect and admiration for her. She is very candid about the life she has lived filled with poverty, violence, and racism, but also about love, strength and joy.
