Cleverly constructed and well-written, but overall I felt a bit ‘so what?’ The lives of a super-rich stock market player and his wife are told in four books, focusing on the 1920’s and 30’s,  each by a different author and in a different genre. Each completely convincing. Perhaps too convincing, - taken individually only the third has any pep to it, the main pleasure is in determining the ‘true’ account, whether or not there can be such a thing, and admiring the cleverness. There may be a suggestion that mathematics and music are all that can be trusted,, but even that is undermined, and one of the few true plot mysteries is left mainly unresolved - a fifth book might be interesting, an opportunity for fan fiction?

I appreciate this kind of storytelling, interesting approach where you can't really trust the narrator. While some of the financial details sometimes lost me, the last third/last part of the book really brought it all together. I thought it kinda funny that this male author painted male characters as so unrealistically lost in their philosophies, but who couldn't handle intelligent women, or were blatantly threatened by them.

It’s interesting and captivating but it’s very detached in the storytelling. It’s straightforward without having any emotional depth for most of the parts.

Luckily despite the straightforwardness of the writing style, it’s not completely telling us everything so it didn’t feel tediously over descriptive.

I loved the third part of the novel the best because it painted a better picture than the other 3 parts! It had a lot of depth and twists to the story. This is an entertaining story of greed, power, and that everyone has their own version of the truth.
It’s also an enraging but all too common look of how men (the characters not the author) write women to be their idea of entertaining, “putting her in her place” instead of showing her as the powerful, independent person that she is.

Trust is one of the most unique novels I’ve read and I really enjoyed it!
