This is GRITTY. Trigger warnings ABOUT. If you’re familiar with Cate C. Wells, that probably doesn’t come as a surprise. The FMC in this book is probably one of my favorite FMCs ever written.

This was my favorite of the Steel Bones MC books so far. I skipped a couple to read this one because Heavy was such a compelling character. I was not disappointed.
I never thought I could like Harper, but seeing her from Heavy's point of view changed everything.
I want to read everything Cate writes!

I had so much fun with this book. This is my first biker romance and the first book I’ve read in this series. I just loved Dina and Heavy. I loved being inside Dina’s mind and I loved that she didn’t lose her autonomy. Heavy is everything you’d expect from the president of a biker gang on the outside but on the inside is this layered, brilliant and caring man. It made me laugh out load several times- I mean if you told me a spicy, biker gang novella was gonna name drop Dostoevsky and quote the Bible I’d laugh in your face but it worked. I loved it, that’s it! P.S. I NEED more big bois in my romances I will forever be imaging all MMCs as Heavy from this day forward.

I really liked Heavy as the giant, larger-than-life leader of the Steel Bones Motorcycle Club, but this book was totally made by Dina, tech genius, neurodivergent, kickbutt heroine who knows who she is and what she wants out of life. The premise is that when Dina seeks a favour from Heavy, she inadvertently reveals that she knows the dark underbelly of the Steel Bones MC, meaning that she must be eliminated or married to protect the club (it sounds like a stretch but sort of makes sense in the plot). But even as this odd couple pairing enters into a marriage of convenience, unresolved issues and the quest for retribution threaten to tear them apart.
I really liked the characterisation of Dina as someone living life on her own terms even though she was threatened by overstimulation daily. She was brave and smart and confident and a perfect balance for Heavy, who was incredibly similar to her in a different way. Dina stole the show in this book and I feel like there could definitely have been more Heavy in this. It seemed like his personality disappeared frequently in this and while he was described as larger-than-life, he didn’t come through strongly in this book. Nonetheless, this was really good and I’m very eager to read Harper’s book when it comes out.
