I think that Le Guin can do landscape, the subtler sides of interpersonal relationships- that kind of uncanny not easily explained connection- very well.

She does overarching plot less well. I'd be hard pressed to go to this book and hold it up as a study of how gender is seen outside of fiction. It's certainly interesting in it's concepts, but still pretty conventional.
