This poetry collection is absolutely stunning and beautifully illustrated. Zetta Elliott wrote heart wrenching poems that illustrate the history, present, and future of Black people, specifically Black women and teens. She references works from other Black feminist authors, and the notes in the back add so much more depth to her poems. Each poem has so much impact and it’s a necessary piece of art that I’ll soon be adding to my collection.

Zetta Elliot unfolds her own journey to self-care and activism in Say Her Name. High school girls will see themselves reflected in many of the verses in this book. I would pair this book with Hood Feminism: Notes from the women that a movement forgot by Mikki Kendall.

Beautiful poems. The poem "Sacred" had my heart hurting, but to be honest many of them did. I hope classrooms start making this required reading.
