A fun, quick little read -- not great literature, to be sure, and at times requiring a strong dose of suspension of disbelief -- but entertaining and by and large well-paced. Unfortunately, the ending was rather disappointing since it did not resolve all the different strands of the narrative and let those it did resolve fall rather flat.

Not awful, but very uneventful story. It was very anti-climatic and somewhat boring, but I was able to make it through. The ending seemed unresolved. Oh the Duke has the codex, but we're not going to mention why he wanted, why the Duchess wanted it, where the Duchess is going, or why Margaret was working with the Duke. It just seemed like it needed another couple pages/chapter to really wrap everything up.

Really enjoyed this.  It was a really interesting juxtaposition of digital game and medieval info .  Really inventive.  Great writing.  Wonderful journey.  Nice to read a book without violence

Disappointing. But moody and different.

Similar in atmosphere and arc to [b: Night Film|18770398|Night Film|Marisha Pessl|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1397425352s/18770398.jpg|15182838] by Marisha Pessl: the protagonist takes an obsessive dive into an obscure topic, has a potential nervous breakdown, and questions the nature of reality. I have the feeling this book got sunk by its own marketing:
SpoilerIt works much better if you don't expect any fantastic elements.

We spent the entire book trying to figure out what the point was, which means that we really had no idea when the climax occurred. That may not have been such a problem, except that it moved soooo sloooooowly. To top it off, the author left us feeling tremendously confused and unsatisfied. You can find much better ways to waste that much of your life.

It took some time for me to write my thoughts upon this book as it was so awful to read. The character don't have any depth to them, with the protagonist being the worse, as he only becomes obsessed with the book because he's told so. The story, although it had an interesting premise, is very dull, not being able to captivate me into reading more of it and learn what the codex had to so important as to demand a quest.

The computer game might be the best of this book, but even so is badly explored by the author. The end was predictable. In general, this book was a waste of time.
