Somewhere Only We Know  is a sweet story of an unlikely pairing: A K-pop star and a photographer for the tabloids. How far would you go for a hamburger?

This book was super enjoyable! Maurene Goo is a master at crafting characters so realistic and relatable you feel like you could easily befriend them. I also love her writing style throughout the whole book, it's so absorbing and funny. This book is really inspirational and teaches readers to follow their dreams! My only problem with this novel was the abrupt ending, but that's more of a matter of personal preference.

Somewhere Only We Know  did have some cursing, but it wasn't too much and didn't negatively affect the reading experience.

I would recommend this book to a YA reader looking for a funny, heartwaming, and relatively quick read.

3.5

Lots of thought provoking topics regarding dark-side K-Pop and being at that place of not knowing your next step in your career. But the lying and overly "charming" nature of the male lead was bothersome. The romance and the way the story was written around it didn't suit me. The lysinggo to me too much.

This author has the power to write cheesy books that always end up stealing 100% of love from my definitely non-cheesy-loving heart.

Not sure I was liking where this book was going st first but ended up really loving it, especially the female lead Lucky. She is just incredible!

Oh, my, GOD! This book is perfect, and SO adorable, I want to read it over and over!!!

I really loved the exploring Hong Kong aspect it made me wish I could jump on a plane and go myself. Also the look at the K-Pop machine was quiet interesting.

A little too gushy at times for my taste. Even knowing this was a romantic relationship kind of book I don't need that much detail on the meaning and feel of every kiss but can't fault it for being what it is I suppose :)

Overall a fun read!

"At the end of today was a goodbye. Anything that could grow between us would be gone within hours, ephemeral and faded before it could even begin. We were like the stars seen from Earth- a memory of something that was already finished."

OOOOHH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. WOW. I am letting everyone know now that this is not going to be cohesive in any way and will consist entirely of me fangirling about how much I love this book and Maurene Goo. I literally just finished this book not five minutes ago but I have to talk about it immediately.
This is HANDS- DOWN one of my favorite contemporaries of ALL TIME. Everything about this book makes my heart happy and I want to read about these characters so much more. I'm thinking of this book right now as [b:The Sun Is Also a Star|28763485|The Sun Is Also a Star|Nicola Yoon|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1459793538s/28763485.jpg|48954670] (which I loved, 5/5 stars), but like 50 times better. That's seriously saying something because I love Nicola Yoon and that book. But this book... I really don't have the words to describe how amazing this book is, but I'm gonna try.

Okay, actually, I just remembered this is an arc, and I don't want to go into too many details since this book doesn't come out until May, so here's more of a vague list of everything I loved.
- Lucky. Seriously one of the most down to earth female characters I've read in a while. I can't tell you the last time I've read about a famous person in a YA novel because it's usually not my taste, but oh my god. She's so likable and I love her with all my heart. I think a lot of YA readers will definitely appreciate her character. Is this too many details? I don't know I'm just so excited. Okay back to just list form.
- Jack. (*swoons*)
- The fact that this book takes place basically in the span of one weekend but still had me falling in love with everything.
-The whole entire plot?? So vague I know but TRUST ME it's so good.

Look I can't even describe the things I love about this book well because it's seriously everything. I'm moving this right to my favorites shelf, and I will definitely be buying a finished copy of this book when it comes out (and I hope everyone else does too).
Thank you to Fierce Reads for letting me get my hands on this beautiful book a few months early!!

Roman Holiday, but with K-Pop in Hong Kong! This was enjoyable, but Jack's ulterior motives made the love story hard to swallow. I liked the details of the K-Pop world layered throughout. Still need to read I Believe in a Thing Called Love to see how she explores the fun of K-drama romance.

Lucky is a K-pop superstar who is tired of the extreme lock-down her management has her on: diet, sing and dance, chaste and without scandal day after day. Until one night when her stomach gets the better of her and she ditches her security guard to find a hamburger in Hong Kong. Jack is a Korean-American expat in Hong Kong who loves photography and hates banking. To supplement his banking internship income, he moonlights as a paparazzi photographer. But when "Fern" stumbles into his life, can he really take secret photos of a girl who is just trying to find a hamburger... and a way to relish life and singing again... and whom he starts developing feelings for?

Maurene Goo has once again written a fun, #ownvoices rom-com complete with butterflies, an exploration of teen love, and the exploration of the future and expectations. Personally, I prefer Goo's two previous books since they focus more on the "everyday" teens (there aren't that many K-pop superstars or expat teens living in Hong Kong), but for those teens who want a splash of the glamor, this will be right up their alley.
