i really enjoy reading about reading. i started this because of zadie smith, but her essay (which was the first one) was pretty underwhelming, while there were others that i actually really enjoyed, especially mark haddon's, jeanette winterson's etc. michael rosen's was so bad i had to skip it

nouja.
Jeanette Winterson, Tim Parks, Jane Davis, Carmen Callil, Michael Rosen: dank voor de woorden.

A collection of essays by various authors, some brilliant and insightful, others dull or even infuriating.

An interesting collection of essays from several authors about the importance and future of reading. More sentimental than informative but a quick and enjoyable read which had me nodding in agreement throughout the book.

A series of short musings on what the act of reading meant, or how it was experienced by the various authors included in this book.

A good collection of thoughtful essays about the practice and pleasures of reading, and particularly its future in a digital society. Take the time to reflect as you read.

The title is so much promising but unfortunately the essays don't deliver what's promised. There are of course a few gems here and there, but overall the essays are far more theoretical and philosophical than I would have liked. Yes, we know the importance of reading, we are after all reading this book, we have already bought what they are selling. I would have liked more personal stories, favorite books, incidents, memories. That would have made me stop What I was doing and read this.
