I think this first book shows great potential for the rest of the series. It was a little to predictable but the characters were quick and easy to fall in love with. It had some funny parts too. I like Vlad so I'm gonna read the rest and hope they are fantastic!

This was a fun, spooky, and entertaining read!
I don't know when I'll dive into the rest of the series
considering I have ARC's waiting to be read but hopefully soon!
I'd say if you love the original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and
the TV series "My babysitter's a Vampire" then you'll enjoy this.
I also really love Heather's writing, it's fast and she knows how
to tell a good story without throwing the boring bits in your face.
Loved it.

I read this on a whim, and perhaps because I was reminiscing over Percy Jackson too much, so I gave this a try. It wasn't bad, but it lacked whatever set Percy Jackson apart. There was no biting wit, and the villainy was just underwhelming. I understand this is the first in a children's series, so perhaps there are far better things to come, but this particular introduction was just...okay.

Fast paced and really funny. I can't wait to see what happens next. I expect as the series continues it will get darker but for now a slightly lighter side to the vampire craze. :)

3.5. This was a fun quick read to get me out of my book slump. I’m a sucker for a good vampire book. Pun intended. I believe this series could have potential on being a classic. What I found to be lacking, or lazy writing, is that Henry always seemed to be asleep or Nelly always needed to leave the room for odd reasons whenever Vlad talked about vampire issues. Personally, I find dealing with the human to campus relationship to be a big character building point and instead this book just skipped over them. I also felt Vlad and Otis relationship was very insta family and the trip to Elysia was underwhelming. In the face off between Vlad and Diablo I was telling through the pages for Vlad to grab the garlic squirt gun from Henry, but Henry was probably asleep through that scene too on top of it never being discussed. Last complaint is that a lot of the book was predictable.
With all these statements, it probably seems like I did not enjoy the book, but I really did. It is considered a middle grade book series and need to remember that middle grade tends to stay a little more light and happy. More than likely will continue especially if I need help getting out of another book slump.

I've never really read supernatural books before and that is why I will always remember this book. Eighth Grades Bites puts a teenage spin on vampires and does it terrifically. I recommend this to anyone who thinks vampire suck because of Twilight. I don't recommend this book to anyone searching for a sappy supernatural/romance novel.
