Not a big fan of this one. The reveal was lack luster and honestly the characters were so one dimensional. I love Comic Con and that’s what caught my eye. Unfortunately the author spent too much time describing the minutiae of the ins and outs of the streets around comic con that he forgot to develop a character worth liking.

This book really is a love-letter to fandom and comic cons. Anyone who spends time in the world of comics will recognise many of the little asides here: there's a reference to the "Captain America is a HYDRA agent" scandal; religious protestors at cons and cosplayers' witty responses to it; as well as Comic-con's Comic Village and the endless queues. It's great fun trying to spot the references and adds a nice meta level of enjoyment to the whole thing.
The story is a fun, quick read too as comic artist Mike runs around trying to solve a murder, as well as trying to keep on top of his obligations as a con guest. The solution wasn't immediately obvious and I loved a lot of the fact-finding scenes: Mike bluffing his way through the religious protestors by saying his name was Danny Rand was a particular highlight. It's always a tough one when writing about fandom to show some of the absurdities of fandom without ridiculing fans as a whole, but this book manages it.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

First off, that title pun.
Second off, the cover mentioning the correct date of SDCC this year (the publishing year, 2018).
Third off, this book was an exciting read. It was a ton of fun making a list of who I thought did it, then the plot twist....I was so right the so wrong then so right and I didnt know where to look because it was just so fun.
Definitely a strong reccomend for fellow nerds and mystery readers alike.

Zombies, Disco Mummy, and MURDER.
Mike Mason , former hotshot comic book artist, is in a bit of a slump. Since his divorce a few years earlier, Mike has sold his home and now lives on the road constantly jumping from one comic convention to another (on the convention’s dime). He hasn’t drawn anything new in years, instead sketching commissions for fans at each new convention. En route to Comic Con, Mike learns that Ben K, his comic mentor and father figure, has been found dead in his apartment. While grieving the loss of The Great One, Mike also has to come face-to-face with his ex-wife and her new boyfriend. Then people start accusing him of murder. It’s going to be one heck of a Con.
I appreciated the “insider” look at comic conventions from a character who has obviously spent a lot of time in that world. The most fun part of this is definitely all the nods to Geek Culture. If you enjoyed Ready Player One for all the nerdy Easter Eggs, then this book is for you!

O.W.L.s read #4
Completes Charms - Age-line: Read an adult work
This book is hilariously entertaining.
I was definitely sold at the synopsis, but I didn't know how much fun I would have reading this. I'm not really a murder mystery fan but boy oh boy, a mystery taking place at a convention made all the difference. Now I want to go to comic con more than ever and also - I want more books like this XD
