I really did not like any of the characters - I did not feel connected to them, so their experiences were not moving or enthralling. It was strikingly corny, and they constantly mentioned
how big Aaron was and how small Catalina was
which was very tiring.

It’s really rare for me to review a book this negatively with just 1 star, but honestly, I barely made it through and only finished it out of principle.

I hate the trope that always seems to accompany a female protagonist who works in a STEM field that they are “oh-so-stubborn” and incredibly clumsy and oblivious. It’s just frustrating. I also felt like this one was dragged out. I didn’t love the disordered eating throughout and the writing just felt…uncomfortable and odd to me.

All of the problems in the book were really unrealistic and not grounded in anything in the plot, except for Aaron’s struggle at the end with his dad.

The writing in this book was extremely repetitive and the main character came off as obnoxious, rude, and annoying even though she was supposed to be cute and bubbly. The main hero was bland. This is basically an idiot plot where there is no issue except that the heroine refuses to acknowledge her feelings.

Catalina, aka Lina, has to find a date to her sister's wedding. She can't go alone because her ex-boyfriend, the groom's brother, is going to be there and get this - he's also engaged. Lina wants to prove to him, and to her family, that she's moved on and that she's actually happy with a new boyfriend (one who doesn't exist yet). Especially after the very public scandal that happened with her ex.

Aaron works at the same company as Lina, and after getting off on the wrong foot, they've made it their jobs to also hate each other and aggravate one another every chance they get. Despite all that, Aaron comes up with a deal - he'll be Lina's fake date if she'll be his. Cue the hijinks.

Despite having heard this was "enemies-to-lovers," it really isn't. Not even a little, not even in the contemporary sense. Lina is the only one who seems to have a problem with Aaron, while he really does nothing to show that he doesn't like her.

The main characters were pretty standard to be honest: Aaron is a thoughtful, put together man that every one wants, but with a sad past. He's like a big loyal Labrador retriever. Lina is quirky, smart, beautiful woman who is the only one who can't tell that Aaron actually likes her. She also has a complicated dating past.

The book starts off pretty slow, but despite that I wouldn't call it a "slow-burn," despite it being described as such. I feel like Lina falling for Aaron in the span of one weekend wasn't exactly slow.

The secondary plot also seemed wrapped up too neatly there at the end. Very unrealistic and really left the book with zero conflict.
what do you mean it's okay she dates her BOSS!?

It feels like too much work to write a review rn but this book was fun and I enjoyed it very much. Enemies to lovers and fake dating are my favorite genre tropes. Sometimes the book felt it was a bit repetitive but I thoroughly enjoyed anyway.

I don’t think I like the fake dating trope lol also this was not enemies to lovers at all.

And one more thing, there is so much talk about dieting and disordered eating in this book that I feel isn’t addressed properly and it really rubbed me the wrong way.
