There were giant neon signs pointing to how this was going to end almost from the first page. But it's about the journey, and this was a journey that I was happy to be on. It turns out I quite enjoy getting incredibly frustrated by characters who frequently misunderstand what is right in front of their faces.

On the whole I loved the story, though I struggled with the writing sometimes - some of the sentences would go on a bit of a tangent I couldn't always follow, which felt like something that should have been fixed by an editor. And it was so adjective-heavy! But I was drawn in nonetheless, and desperate to see how Catalina and Aaron's relationship would develop.

I think the last 50 pages or so were my favourite, and I almost wish the first half had been shorter so we could have had more time on the relationship after Spain, which felt a little rushed. But this is definitely better than your average romance, and I loved the characters and their chemistry.

This book lives up to its reputation and is a very good slow-burn book. Loved the characters can’t wait to read more from this author! My favorite character was definitely Aaron he had me giggling, blushing, and kicking my feet with his words and flirting DEF RECOMMENDED

i was really loving this at first and then it got really bad really quickly. something about that last 10% did not work for me.
scattered thoughts, both positive and negative, in no particular order:

- the dialogue is really cheesy throughout (i loved it in the beginning (like hello this is exactly what i signed up for) but it was a bit exhausting by the end)
- love lina's family + their dynamic, very relatable.
- loved the spanish throughout, i thought it was done v well
- i usually hate the third act break-up but i thought this one made so much sense -- of Course she'd have anxiety about a workplace romance after what she's been through. i don't think she was being unreasonable at all. if he had communicated better and told her he already talked to HR, things would be different. but he didn't. so.
- aaron is a bad communicator and it drove me insane. i don't care that lina twists his words and overthinks and hears double meanings in this words -- at least that's interesting. he just has some cryptic line here or there and then suddenly launches into love declarations and cringe dirty talk. the leap was bizarre.
- i hate "baby" as a petname. it just squicks me. babe is better, sweetheart / love is fine, but 'baby' just gives me the ick. and aaron said it So Much.
- if i did math correctly, lina was 19 and daniel was 31. i want him dead. gerald too. fuck the both of them.

anyway. 3.75 stars bc i could not put it down, even when i wanted to.

The Spanish Love Deception was an incredibly slow burn. They didn’t even kiss until like 80% into the book!! This book encapsulates the enemies to lovers trope which personally I love. Something that brought it down to 4 stars for me was how annoying I found Lina at the beginning of the book. She is an extremely strong-headed and stubborn woman. I love how she is portrayed as a strong and independent woman for the rest of the book, however at the beginning she is so stubborn and childish, which I found really frustrating. Aaron is so sweet and compassionate after you get to know him and they make a really good couple. Overall, this book was romantic and comedic and genuinely a good read.
