can I give this 6 stars?
Aaron is the best book boyfriend I have ever read. I would recommend this to anyone into the enemies to lovers trope.

May 11 @ 11:43pm. Brutal. Cheesy. Annoying. So glad to be finished with this book. Goodnight.
May 12 @ 9:15pm. Okay… I slept on my one star review, but I still stand by it. Spanish Love Deception is awful. The main character, Catalina, said the same thing over and over and over again. And Aaron (her enemy turned lover) was pretty creepy. Even the sex scene that was supposed to be the highlight of the book was stupid. “Baby, milk me?“ WTF??
Listen, this book is supposed to be a romance? Dude, take my advice…just reread Fifty Shades of Grey and call it a day. This book had a lot of pages for very very little enjoyment. Lol

The story unfolded at a medium to slow pace. I liked the writing style for the most part, but it felt overly exaggerated at times and sometimes, the inner monologue continued eternally. There was the classic "enormous guy, tiny girl" trope that I disliked but the characters drew me in from the start and I was hooked on the plot.

Lina was a fun character but her obliviousness got on my nerves.
It was clear that Aaron liked Lina from the start, which of course everyone could see except her, and she probably would have caught on if she paused her lusting for a minute. Her trust issues were also a hinderance and she needed therapy.

Additionally, Aaron seemed suspicious and forceful to me. It felt like he was covertly controlling, and I didn't understand why he wouldn't divulge information about himself. Also, why was he so obsessed with Lina? Just because she was nice to him once? They both just needed to communicate clearly and their inability to do so ruined the book for me.

The misogyny was frustrating too. Why didn't anyone call it out? From work to her family, it followed Lina everywhere. The book only seemed to focus on the relationship with everything else happening outside of it, which meant that the story had nothing to do with Lina's development. The ending was also super typical with So. Much. Cringe.

Overall, the writing style was engaging but the entire focus of the book was the relationship and nothing outside of it, even though there was so much potential. I didn't particularly hate any characters but I didn't love them either, so it was an alright read.

I didn't read this book I listen to it, and it was long! I feel like there was a lot of description at the start (before they left for Spain) that weren't really interesting. There was a lot of back and forth between Leena and Aaron, like we know he's gonna go with you to the wedding so let's skip the chase. Other than that it was good, not the best read of the year, but it was good and funny.
