loveeeddd this book. it was beautifully written, and i adore the story. i love historical fiction, and romance, so this was something i highly enjoyed

my only critique is that i wish we got to know Kath a bit better. i loved her. i just wanted to see a bit more into her life

this was a great coming of age story, and honestly i think it could make a great movie. it would make me cry 100%

4.5, the middle portion was a bit slow and I wanted more from the ending but overall I really liked it.

Read it in our book club and found so many questions and prompts online that enhanced the reading experience!

such a great queer love story!

as someone who is women gender studies minor in college and loves queer literature, this was such a beautifully written novel. i loved the race element that was added into this, it is very much something i have been wanting from other novels about queer folks. not to mention the coming of age piece which i LOVED. if you are looking for a beautiful story about young love, PLEASE read this, you won’t regret it.

5/5 stars, no notes!

I know very little about American history and even less about queer history so this was fascinating and also at times heartbreaking. The intersection of identities (the main character is Chinese-American and lesbian), the self discovery, the focus on community and representation all set in 1950s San Francisco was illuminating. It was also great to get flashbacks to the parents growing up in the 30s and what snippets of their lives looked like.

Overall if you're looking for a historical, wlw novel with a not tragic ending I really recommend this!
