It is rated lower for me because I didn’t enjoy the way it was written. The voice jumped between 3rd person and calling out the reader. There was some confusion in descriptions of certain things, like I as the reader should have known this already? But there is not much insight to what is actually happening to work with.
There is a lack of explanation of why any these events are happening, so the book as a whole lacked depth, though the ending is satisfying.

This was very atmospheric and a perfect spooky season read.
I like the originality in the plot and while the twists weren’t surprising to me they made a lot of sense and fit very well into the story.
