I don't want to give a synopsis for this one because if you haven't already read Anna K, it will give too much away. The best way to describe this series is a Gossip Girl meets Crazy Rich Asians modern retelling of Anna Karenina. Anna K Away picks up right where Anna K left off and it sucked me in right away.

This book felt less slow than the original and from the first moment it was filled with drama. This is one example where I think I actually enjoyed book two more than book one! While there was a lot going on, this book did not feel as heavy as book one. I enjoyed getting to know the characters better in this one too! Because they were all apart for the summer and had their own storylines, I could really get to know each character as an individual and it made it easier to keep track of the different characters.

The audiobook was phenomenal. I could listen to Jenna Ushkowitz all day!

Anna K: Away purtroppo non ha avuto lo stesso fascino del precedente.

I loved Anna K and was glad to be reunited with the characters. The sequel is much slower to get going, the first 1/2 felt like too much exposition and rehashing of the first book. Not enough action or new story. But as the book got going, it got better. There is still the drama from the first book but it’s considerably less fun, which makes sense given the end of Anna K. It’s a good read and sets us up for a very fun book 3 (I hope).

This gets 2 stars instead of 1 because while the writing is poor, I do truly think I could still enjoy the CW teen show style of story anyway, I'm just not personally in that headspace right now.

This was disappointing as I loved the first book. However, I found Anna K: Away boring. Period. I started caring less and less for the characters as time went on. Originally I enjoyed all the characters and seeing them again, although as time went on, I started caring less and less. First I lost interest in Bea, then Lolly and Steven, Natalia, Anna and finally lost interest in Kimmie and Dustin. Disappointing because Dustin was my favourite character in the first book. Bea's storyline just felt boring, which is a shame as it was sapphic. Lolly and Steven followed the same predictable cheating storylines that have been present since the first novel. I just felt no attachment to Natalia as she felt like an outsider in the first book, meaning my interest in her was already slim. I was interested in Anna at first, as the premise of going to an international boarding school as a way to cope was endearing, although it quickly delved into typical drama and miscommunication. After I lost interest in everyone except Kimmie and Dustin, it was only inevitable I had to put the book down. I'm sure I'd enjoy their storyline if the others were well written, although this was not the case. Pretty disappointing from one of my favourite books.
