Jenny Lee's Anna K and Anna K: Away are both highly entertaining, silly novels that are my definition of escapism. By premise alone, neither are books that excite me but then after a few minutes, I am hooked. I love that Jenny Lee can pull me in even when I am doubtful at the start. Part of it may be Jenna Ushkowitz' brilliant narration... elevating the sass to the max in a way that draws you in and cringe at the same time. There is something spectacular about this adaptation that can entertain those who like the high-drama Anna Karenina (honestly, I would have never used "high-drama" to describe it since I've never read but after Anna K, it is now the only way I can see it) and those that have no interest in the classic whatsoever. In her sequel, Jenny Lee continues her spectacular cast of characters in their shenanigans. Full of Crazy Rich Asians and Gossip Girl vibes, it has slightly less plot but much more character and relationship development. If you need a few hours of total crazy and yet endearing characters living lives that most people can only imagine, this is for you!

I was a bit underwhelmed by the sequel; I just found a lot of the plot points to be unbelievable! Still a fun read though

Content warnings for any actual teenagers in my opinion, but this was such a fun and wild book! Perfect for fans of Gossip Girl or similar storylines. A wonderful sequel to Anna K, with a perfect ending!

4.5 stars! I loved this follow up to Anna K! Sequels are hard to do well, but this one was excellent. It picked up with the story and familiar characters from the first book, but it also added some new characters and settings that were different. It struck a great balance. Loved it! Highly recommend!

This was only okay for me (although I did read through it in only a few hours). The first novel in this series, Anna K: A Love Story, surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. The first instalment of the series was fast-paced and there was a ton of drama, which drew me in pretty much immediately. This sequel was definitely slower and it didn’t live up to the expectations set by its predecessor.

The story lacked cohesion because of the rotating perspectives, and I really only cared about Anna’s story. There’s less character development and a lot of clichés. However, it does a good job of exploring trauma and grief from a teen perspective, and I really feel like I would have loved this when I was in high school.

Looking forward to a third book! I still have hopes that another book could capture the drama and tragedy that made Anna K: A Love Story successful.

this is the sequel to anna k: a love story.

amidst her scandal and her grief, anna’s father takes her to the other side of the world. in south korea, anna has to decide if this is exile or a chance to start anew. back in the u.s., anna’s friends go through a series of relationship drama, including theatre camp flings, uncertainty around sex, and strangers becoming more.

the first book captivated me with all the drama and, of course, tragedy, so i just had to see how this one played out. i appreciated the various depictions of grief through the different characters. i highly recommend this to anyone who liked the first book and wants more from the characters.
