4.25 stars. A suspenseful mystery spanning 2 different timelines.
This book had it all. I found it gripping from the start and loved how the story was told in the past and the present with a chilling ghost story woven in.
Really well written, this story will have you invested and the ending is perfect.

This was my first Simone St. James book and it definitely won’t be my last!
Jumping timelines between 1950 and 2014 the novel has two separate storylines. Both storylines are connected to Idlewild Hall, the rumored to be haunted girls boarding school. Both timelines collide at the end of the book with an ending that I personally loved.
I went into this one with little to no knowledge of the plot. It was full of suspense, mystery, heartbreaking situations, and a strong supernatural element, with just the right amount of creepy for me.
If you’re looking for a suspense book with a supernatural twist give this one a try!

Has all the trappings to be a stereotypical murder mystery that goes back in forth in time, being solved by a journalist. But this book was in no way stereotypical.
For one the supernatural aspect adds a horror, very tense aspect.
Secondly, it's also a book with a feminist tone, where forgotten, unwanted, or "inconvenient" girls fight the system, and finally get their voices heard.
Thirdly, I've found with books that bounce back and forth in time, many times one of the story lines is wayyy more interesting than the other. Often times I wind up only skimming the boring parts to get to the more interesting story line. But both were pretty darn exciting!

Not so much scary as mysterious.Got a little muddy here and there but overall a solid story.
