I can't think of a single complaint I would make about this book. It had everything: believable, strong characters, creepy all-girls boarding school, perspectives from two time periods, gothic elements, ghosty bits, murder, mystery of all kinds really. It was fast-paced, exciting, a complete thrill to read.

Such a great read, suspense, friendship, historical fiction, paranormal, and crime thriller all in one with 2 separate timelines. Best book so far this year.

My first read by Simone St.James! I was a little nervous going into this because I heard they use paranormal elements and I don’t commonly read or gravitate towards paranormal but I really liked the way those elements played into the story. I also didn’t expect this thriller to be as dark as it is, I would definitely look up trigger warnings before reading this one. I enjoyed our characters, I liked Jamie and Fiona’s relationship and I wouldn’t have minded if it expanded on them a little more. The romance is definitely a side plot that could have been explored a bit more, I’d love to see some more scenes between the two whether it was joking around together or just a date.

The story is definitely more complexed than what I commonly read, the writing is good, the experience of reading this was excellent I’d definitely will be reading more from Simone St.James but I was struggling to keep track of everything. There are a lot of characters, history, and backgrounds to keep track of. The story could be a bit confusing for me sometimes but it kept me hooked the entire time.
