I really liked this book even tho there weren't any mind blowing twists. The author does a good job of laying out the story and wraps it up nicely in the end.
Pros:
• The writing kept me engaged and I love the dual storyline of past and present. The atmospheric feel of it was a nice touch.
• The characters of the girls in the past were really well written, you really feel for these kids and what they've been through. You want better for them and you are proud of them.
•There were no unnecessary dragging parts at all! I went through the book so fast and then realised that the author had actually done such a good job of keeping only the relevant parts of the story without it missing pace. Usually mysteries/thrillers have all these random backstories of characters that in no way adds to the story but this wasn't that.
Cons:
• The main character is really unlikable. She had no personality, was doing dumb questionable shiz and had a terrible attitude. All of which is somehow due to her trauma but she had no PERSONALITY.
•The whole reveal part, even tho they build up to it kinda felt like it was too sudden? Or maybe rushed? Idk
•The story really doesn't have any mystery to it after the initial 100 pages, cause you can start piecing stuff together quite easily and then you sit and wait for the main character to figure it out.
All in all a good book, would recommend 8/10 for the atmosphere and storyline not so much for the mystery

I apparently read this way back in 2019 but have absolutely no memory of it so was excited to start again. And, I still enjoyed it! At one point I thought, oh yeah, I have read this, I know exactly what is going to happen next. And then I was WRONG. So somehow, St. James got me twice! Some stuff is "easy" to figure out, but like my friend Kirsten said in our buddy read, it's not in a bad mystery writing way, but in a way where it makes the most sense. (Not everything needs a forced twist!). I liked Fiona, but I especially liked all the chapters that took place in the past. The paranormal elements were interesting, and I think tied in overall with the theme of treatment of women/girls, but also wasn’t really 100% necessary, in my opinion. Though, as I type this, I remember one of the big tie ins lol, so maybe it was needed. If you’re not a paranormal lover though, you’ll still enjoy this one because the mystery is good and the characters are great.
Awesome but sad book. There is a mysterious part and supernatural part of this book. There is some satisfaction and irritation included. There’s the good old boy club in blue.

This book is a love story about friends that took me on a ride I was not expecting. A triple mystery, part horror, part history lesson cast against a backdrop of small town politics.

A web of cases seemingly happening apart from each other are all intertwined as they are picked apart by an obsessive main character. A creepy paranormal aspect provides a chilling undertone.

Very creepy, very thrilling. I liked the mystery, and really enjoyed the 1950s part of the story. It was captivating, and a little freaky.
