It feels like the breeze in autumn, both chilly and comforting. A short story about a woman and her mother's journey in Japan. With a bit of flashbacks during the journey, trying to transcribe the meaning of life. The detail description of the story made me feel like I was the one who went through it. It was me who wandering through Japan, having short trips, walking here and there, and many more. I wish there would be more depth in character development. The connection between the main character and her mother is not as strong as I wished. Maybe if it's not a short story, the character development and their chemistry could be better. Overall, the story was pretty enjoyable for me.

Short, sweet, and heartfelt. There's no dialogue in there but it has some of the loveliest descriptions of environments and the character's reflections on life. I recommend this one to people who like paying attention to the little things

introspective and simultaneously terse and digressive. thought that the explorations of how we never truly can understand each other's minds were interesting. there was a strong sense of remove to this novella's prose and overall storytelling, despite the near-constant digressions to past memories of the narrator's. i never truly felt like i was inhabiting a fleshed-out character; this novel is very focused on style and theme. sometimes i enjoyed that, and i do admire its clear and concise prose overall, and sometimes i longed for a bit more access to our characters, particularly our narrator. overall, though, i found the calm, almost hypnotic nature of this novel's prose to be quite compelling, and i appreciated what jessica au had to say about our knowledge, or really lack of knowledge, about the lives we are leading and the world around us. my admiration for this book's style and thematic work isn't quite enough to make it a favorite, but i absolutely would recommend it to anyone who's interested
