Aw, this was good chic lit. Very low-key Valentine’s weekend reading. No complaints! They didn’t do anything stupid or unbelievable, and the heroine grew in ways not related to the romance, but also ways that made the romance roadblocks (and their eventual removal) logical.

Evvie Drake Starts Over was a great way to kick off 2020. It was entertaining and full of warmth. I enjoyed Evvie’s character arc and felt her mental and emotional struggles were portrayed realistically. Her friendships and family relationships were equally well written from best friend Andy to her crusty Maine lobsterman father. As a side note, I love that she’s named after Eveleth, Minn. where I’ve actually been - home of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame!
I also enjoyed her friendship with Dean, a down and out former pro baseball player who comes to visit Andy and rents the apartment attached to Evvie’s home. Although I liked him, I didn’t feel he was quite as well developed as Evvie and seemed like stereotypical hunky but kind hero.
Overall, I was completely engaged with the story and flew through it, staying up well past my weekday bedtime to finish!

Une romance agréable située dans une petite ville portuaire. Idéal durant l'été. Attention par contre, contient plusieurs scènes de violence psychologique et de violence physique.
Graphic: Death, Domestic abuse, and Emotional abuse
