Great book and excellent writing. The author packed a lot in here. Its a complex read with multiple plot points. But the ending dragged on and I wished the past chapter had been formatted as another timeline and not a dump of information. Its hard to mentally to introduce new characters at the end of a book. Just wish the ending was tied up neater but overall good book.

I think the description of this book doesn’t set readers up for success. It’s not a thrilling mystery, but more a story about all the characters in the house over time. There is a fair bit of exposition to learn about different topics (indigenous history, the Shaker religion) and I feel like I learned quite a bit even if those parts did not advance the plot.
