I really wanted the thrilling gothic-infused suspense this book is described as and it falls a little flat. The writing is well done, and the characters are interesting, but there is basically no plot and I got bored waiting for something to happen.

When I watched Moe Black's Youtube video about The Secret History by Donna Tartt, I marveled at this eloquent, intelligent, cool lady talk for three and half hours passionately about dark academia. I thought to myself, 'I should share her love for this kind of literature... but I don't. Why don't I? What is wrong with me?' This has weighed heavy on my soul as I can never achieve cool, dark-academia girl status. But then I picked up this book and I got it. I immediately got it.

I love you Catherine House, mi Amor.

It's not so much that this book really did anything wrong, more that it just didn't do much at all? It was fine, but I think the people who are likeliest to really enjoy this are those who like books that are weird for the sake of being weird. In terms of things like character development/plot/themes, there's just not much to hold on to.

No Plot. Boring. Definitely not for me. I expected more and didn’t get it. Nothing really happens and I was confused most of the time. The writing wasn’t bad though.

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins for this ARC. This book was not something I would normally read but I was looking forward to something different. This was an interesting story about an exclusive school with a dark secret. I expected more of a suspenseful thriller. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it suspenseful and just an ok book. It also read much like a YA novel.

This novel has a strange, dreamy vibe that I absolutely loved.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, and the author had a very intriguing idea, but it got boring and lost my interest by the second part (year 2) of the book. I did finish the book in hopes it would get exciting, but unfortunately, it didn't.

the only thing this book did for me was the atmosphere. I need to be more selective with dark academia
