De Beauvoir's works were on my TBR for quite some time and this is my first Simone's read. I'm taken a back. Waw. What a beautiful style of writing she has. And what a heartbreaking story. I also loved the included letters between Zaza and Simone at the end of the novel. Can't wait to read more of her work.

oh my god that ending broke me. the writing was beautiful. i love how much we learn about the deep love the girls have for eachother that continues into adulthood. so much existentialist detail. so many beautiful lines and phrases that really captured friendship. kept me gripped. i love how it’s a memoir but that made it sadder!!!
