Light, quick, fun read in Janet Evanovich’s signature style. I really like the new characters and the dynamic between Gabriella and Rafer- excited to see where they go!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

There was no depth. I've tried to read this several times. I don't like an unfinished book, but I can no longer hold onto this fury.

It read like a romantic fantasy written by a teenager who watched Tomb Raider 4 years ago at a sleep over and also wants their parents to get back together. The story revolved around a divorced couple treasure hunting to save their home town from economic ruin after being told via a family member who heard from an ancestorial ghost about a pirate diary. Everyone knows pirates liked to kick their feet and write in their diaries, not just maps. Also, why do ancestorial ghosts ALWAYS wait until you really need help to lift a transparent finger? Was this written by AI? The man kept happening to be the white knight. After every mild-injury defying situations, he would insinuate that she wanted him, but she would stay silent. She should have been cast as a mirror. The story would have made more sense.

On the four pages that finally made me want to give up, they somehow saved her employee from a hostage situation where she was doused with gasoline. How did they get out when the bad guy had guns, several henchmen, and an empty building ready to be engulfed by gas and flames? Well, they obviously had their kick ass abilities as damsels in distress. Dialog, dialog. Fake treasure exchange. Bad dude shot the ceiling in warning and Mr. Divorcee White Knight Surfer Dude heard that and started shooting up the lobby. That's when the mirror said "The cops and the FBI are out there." And everyone knows that once a criminal who just said he was going to sacrifice your hearts (beating or not) to his God, would tuck tail and run away from that situation. Dumbfounded. So they get in a taxi whilst still reeking of gasoline. The divorced couple end up back at the main characters apartment where she was showering off. He happens to join her in the shower and said something like "I hope you don't mind. What's that lovely smell?" And the mirror said "It's my body wash." Why does a mirror need body wash? Don't they just need windex? Am I cleaning my mirrors wrong?

Well, I mind. I just can't.

This is the first in a new series, although we met Gabriela in the Stephanie Plum series. This one has more adventure but fewer laughs. The story never grabbed me, but I'll try the next in the series to give it another try.

The formula that works so well for Stephanie Plum is less successful here. Plucky woman? ✅ hunky guy sidekick✅.cast of zany characters who say funny things?✅Cartoonlike bad guy?✅ quirky grandma?✅. Destroyed cars? Well, less of those unless a boat counts. It’s the first in a series so maybe the characters need a little time to get fleshed out. I’ll read the next one but glad I got it at the library instead of buying it.

Another fabulously fun read from Janet Evanovich. As others have said, this story definitely has the Indiana Jones feel. That's part of the appeal for me. Is it super realistic, nah, but I wasn't expecting or wanting that. I wanted a fun mystery which is what I found.

As usual, I loved the narration by Lorelei King. She is an absolute amazing narrator. She's the reason I've found several of my favorite series.

Listened as audio book. Would really rate as a 2.5. The writing style wasn’t my favorite a lot of brand names which felt weird and a lot of “ X said” which became extremely repetitive. The adventures felt too easily resolved and like it was a series of mini adventures and everything happens too quickly. The MFC was pretty bland and one note but the MMC was a bit more likeable.

It was okay. I loved reading the Stephanie Plum series beginning with [b:One for the Money|6853|One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1)|Janet Evanovich|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1316730230l/6853._SY75_.jpg|1486401] and read all the way up to number 26, then decided my time with Stephanie Plum has come to an end.

This book was okay, but i just didnt see the banter like I had in the Plum series.

I doubt I will be continuing the series.

I had fun reading…but at the same time, meh? It was a good switch from my usual thrillers but I felt like there were way too many plot holes?
