⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

“Even Though I Knew the End” by C.L. Polk was a well paced, intriguing, and entertaining sapphic novella! I didn’t know too much going in, but I often find that adds to my reading experience. I enjoyed the setting—1940s Chicago, which combined perfectly with a magical romance. The unique atmosphere and a magical main character detective.
I would’ve liked more character development with the side characters, and maybe more backstory too.

Overall, I enjoyed this one as I wrapped up my reading goals for the year.

An enjoyable, if occasionally predictable, story. The world created was very immersive and the magic system was explained well so it never felt like having to learn complex rules. At points plot felt a bit too reliant on twist reveals that were sometimes predictable, but it was still entertaining. The worldbuilding was probably my favourite element of the book, with the relationship between Elena and Edith a close second. They were both very well-written and believe-able and their relationship was very easy to root for. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for books with good wlw representation, especially if you're interested in lgbt historical fiction.

Picked this up for the last prompt of my reading challenge and I loved this, so much packed in such a tiny book in terms of genres and world building. It hooked me even though I barely understood any of the magical universe but it turned out I didn’t really needed that understanding because it came along the way; so not sure if it was all specific to this story and written to be mysterious, or wether it was actually accessibly written for readers with entry-level knowledge on wizardry people and - not unimportantly - the bible. These demons and angels were surprisingly worthless however, all withholding information that could save some precious time. Interesting little ride with a pretty but bittersweet ending.

I love a good title-drop. I like that this was a novella. Sometimes a story can feel bloated by trying to extend the plot, but this was story nicely paced and everything felt necessary. I love magic and I love sapphic women god bless <3
