This Nikki Heat book has more international/spy intrigue. It was fun to read and flows well with the previous books in the series.

It is quite fun to read these books. You can see and hear the characters from Castle. I have no idea if I would enjoy these books anywhere near as much if I didn't watch the show. But anyone who does watch the show and followed the last four books should not be disappointed.

I read these books for literally one reason.

"She could hear silver clanging and table conversation. Something like, 'Nathan would be perfect casting, if he's available.'"

This book has the best reference thus far, though.

Rook even investigated a site devoted to the mutt languages of some TV series called 'Firefly'.

Yep. That one sentence right there is literally the only reason this book got 3 stars. Well, that and because the narrator for this one is a huge improvement over the last one.

There are people out there who read these for the actual murder mystery thrill. And that boggles my mind.

I mean, the serial killer plot line alone. OMG! THAT is the killer?! NO WAY! WHO WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY KNOWN THAT?!?!?

I did.

From literally the second we were introduced to them. Because duh.

And the B plot, which was the weirdest least cohesive combination of mother's murder and terrorist threat, was so. damn. boring. It's a terrorist threat, FFS. How do you make that boring?

A repeat thought I have every time I read one of these. If Richard Castle/The Castle TV show were actually real, I would be shocked and horrified that they let this guy help out in police investigations. Because wow.

The next one is the last one, right? Then we move on to Derek Storm, where I am praying to all the fishes that there are no Whedon references? Because noooooo.

Another fine work by "Richard Castle". If you enjoy the TV series you'll enjoy the books. Yes, some of it was predictable but overall an enjoyable read for fans of the series.

This was by far my least favorite of the Nikki Heat series. Instead of being a stand-alone installment in the adventures of Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook, this book was actually a continuation of the murder mystery of Heat's mother that was blown open in "Frozen Heat." As a result, there were many interconnecting characters and plot points that had me playing catch up since I hadn't re-read "Frozen Heat" before diving into this novel.

In addition, the continuation of Heat's investigation into her mother's murder and the subplot (main plot?) of a terrorist threat meant the book was much heavy in tone and subject than the previous installments in the series. I appreciate the Castle books for their light-hearted romantic shenanigans wrapped in a murder mystery. With the murder mysteries taking front stage and the shenanigans left behind the curtain, my enjoyment was greatly diminished.
