I think in this series the crime story becomes more and more a subplot to the (exceedingly) difficult relationships between the characters. I normally hate this in detective stories but here I think it is/ was ok, because the characters were so ordinary and believable and I enjoy that time really passes and the kids grow up and so on. But the crime story was borderline lazily done. I really think she should have done with the latest twist towards the end of the book though it's getting very soap opera.

There are emotional complications upon complications, as the team search first for a missing homeless woman, which morphs into a search for a killer as two homeless men are stabbed as they sleep - I enjoyed the ongoing saga of all the emotional complications of the team, the new boss, and the determination of DS Judy Johnson to find the names and stories of the "rough sleepers."

The best one yet of this series. I thought I had tired of the Ruth/Nelson relationship storyline but this brought in fresh air. Also, the central mystery involving underground tunnels, murdered rough sleepers, and missing women was thrilling, with lots of twists and turns. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
