I didn’t realise how short this book was! I was devastated when it ended so quickly! I really enjoyed it, I wish it was a full length novel i wanted to get lost in.

Still, a really love little snapshot.

A re-release of a novella that originally appeared in the Another Place in Time anthology. The youngest son of a peer is asked to shepherd a factory owner, the elder brother of his sister's betrothed, in society before the wedding. As always with Chambers' writing, both characters come alive on the page through on point dialogue and character-revealing deep POV, and a consciousness of class issues in the period grounds the story in actual history of the time.

My only problem is that this is far too short! I wanted to spend far more time with Adam and Lysander!

This more of a short story than a full-length novel, so it surprised me with how much I enjoyed it.
It is a simple story where a gentleman is tasked with taking care of his brother-in-law to be and to introduce him to the London society. We follow them going around visiting noble houses, talking, fencing, dancing, kissing and you get the idea.

It is short, sweet and sexy and I love it.

What the heck, I liked this so much. Very cute, and a lot of chemistry for something so short.

“You could not please me more,” Adam said softly. “I count it a privilege to be chosen by you for this. To be allowed to give you this pleasure.” He smiled. “And it will be a pleasure, Lysander, of that you can be sure.”

Brief summary:
Lysander Winterborne is 23 years old and his parents make him show Adam Freeman, who’s 31 years old, around town. During that time, they start experience desire for the other and then they act on it.

I don’t really have much to say about this book. It was really short and I just enjoyed everything about it. Everything about this book worked for me, I loved the plot, the settings, the tone, the characters, the building relationship, I just enjoyed all of it.

Here are some gifs that describe very well my experience reading this book.

A lovely little story. Joanna Chambers is able to set the atmosphere in so few pages. On to the sequel!

December 2022 Update

Feel the same about this book. Moving on to the Christmas sequel which I have not read and hoping it will get better.

Original review

I expected a lot from this book and was a little disappointed. I have enjoyed this author's previous books but this one is not my favorite -- its really short -- so there is not very much time to build up the chemistry and everything happens very ... very quickly. This always makes me skeptical -- I really have a hard time believing that people meet and that very same day decide they are soul mates for life? Ok, not quite but not that far off either. Trust would have been an enormous consideration at the time of this novel and I can't really see them being so quick and easy about letting down their respective guards. This book would have been a lot more enjoyable if the courtship and subsequent romance was drawn out a bit ... there is a tonne of potential in this story ... but it is severely limited but the book's short length ... so unfortunately not really my favorite read ...
