Hilarious, in that particular turn-of-the-century British way I love so much.

This is an interesting tale of 3 friends and their dog, while they go on a boating expedition.
They have an opinion that they are exhausted by their works and tired of their daily lives, and in desperate need of a vacation. They decide to take a boat ride up the River Thames.
This book is comical and very entertaining.
“I will not take up your time, dear boy, with telling you what is the matter with me. Life is brief, and you might pass away before I had finished. But I will tell you what is NOT the matter with me. I have not got housemaid’s knee. Why I have not got housemaid’s knee, I cannot tell you; but the fact remains that I have not got it. Everything else, however, I HAVE got.”
The writing is very intriguing, mostly because it's sarcastic and smart, and that captivated me to read this book.

I found myself laughing at some parts of this book, something that I have not done with some of the past books I've read, for a book written in 1889 it is still funny to this day.
I'd recommend it as a read to anyone.

A very fun read. Relatable at a lot of points.
A good book easy to read about a very unique boat trip.
slow-paced

Not my kinda book

So funny, a short, delightful, comic novel.

This is a book that has been on my reading list for years and years, and on having just read it now, I'm kicking myself for not having experienced its joys sooner.

The story follows three hypochondriac men (and a dog) who decide that their health may be improved by a boat trip along the Thames. As they pass each place on their voyage, J (the narrator) either tells tales of his own (or his companions') happenings there, or daydreams about historical figures and events (eg Henry VIII and his difficulty in courting Anne Boleyn in peace).

My favourite parts of the novel are:

* J believing he has every illness defined in medical books, except housemaid's knee
* Harris's adventures in Hampton Court Maze
* The party with the German singer
* The trout episode
* J's thoughts on firstly the bully boy steam-launches; and then later his thoughts on
the annoying little rowing boats.

This book is pure comedy, perfect for times when life seems a little too stressful. If you haven't already read it, I would urge you to do so now. It is a little gem!

This was way more funny than I thought it was going to be, but maybe it helps if you're English. The scenes before they start on the boat are a bit slow but after that it's a great regula mix of romantic history and scenery descriptions, fantastic humour, and relatable observations about human thought.

Some enjoyable parts but tedious in places
