25.10a fiction

This had some great laugh out loud moments. It felt modern for how old this book is.

I read the illustrated ebook version of this, and the illustrations were as charming as the book. Not hilariously funny, but a nice gentle romp in the countryside, as well as a historical view of what it would have been to take a boat trip on The Thames - completely unrecogniseable from the Britain today, it ought to be said!

You just have to cry from laughter while reading this book. But it's very wise too, and writen so lightly you can just relax and enjoy all it has to offer (which is a lot).

A very meandering but occasionally hilarious proto-Wodehouse trip. It's not an actual story, having only bits of plots in a hundred or so anecdotes, but it was nice to see the early English shadows of Bertie Wooster & co.

Hy-freakin'-sterical. There were moments when J. went off on one of his (many) detail tangents that I would sort of skim over, but that added to the charm. So stinking funny.

funny lighthearted slow-paced

I don't try to hold all books to the racial standards of today and I don't think I'm a shrinking violet who can't handle any exposure to racism, but when you encounter explicit casual racism in books, even when they are old, it just ruins a lot of the lighthearted fun. And when the book is only lighthearted fun, well, it's hard for me to keep reading.

It's a funny book, though.
