A very tidy North and South variation with a bit of a mystery, involving a charity and the terms of an insurance contract. Clarkston is very good at characterization, both of the canon characters and of the original characters she has created to expand the universe.

This is it. This is my favorite Nicole Clarkston book! To me, it's the perfect mix of angst and lightheartedness. I just find this so enjoyable. The plot is unique, yet oddly nostalgic and comforting. I enjoy all the characters, even the devious villains. Would this be considered a cliché novel? Perhaps. But it makes me happy and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

I loved the premise, but several of the linguistic decisions jarred so badly that the last 25% changed from a joy to a slog. Gutted about this as the story itself was compelling.

Oh man this book was just as good as No Such Thing As Luck. It's a definite page turner.
