Vi este libro hace menos de una semana en la librería y me llamo mucho la atención la portada, es decir, es Las Vegas ¿a quien no le atrae eso? Para mi desgracia, es el segundo libro de esta saga y no suelo comenzar una saga por su séquela. Por esa portada, hice una excepción.
Con una trama llena de misterio, secretos, luchas de poder y montones de acción, Venganza nos presenta la historia de la pareja de detectives Johnny Stride y Serena Dial mientras uno investiga el asesinato de un conocido millonario mientras que el otro investiga el atropello de un niño respectivamente. Crímenes que podrían quedar impunes en una ciudad donde los ricos y poderosos tienen inmunidad a las leyes pero la determinación de los detectives es resolver estos casos incluso cuando las pistas convergen y los llevan al asesinato de una stripper en los años sesenta.
Fue una lucha constante leer este libro, no solo porque no habían partes aburridas ni partes que no fueran interesantes sino por lo largo, complejo e interesante que es. Leía cada vez que podía. De hecho, la mitad de mis amigos saben, mínimo, una parte de la trama de este libro.
Me encanta como el autor construyo la trama porque es un constante misterio y no te la pone fácil cuando intentas predecir algún suceso. Como un gran rompecabezas en el que no ves todas las piezas aunque estén ahí. Y los personajes, todos tienen algo interesante, conocen algo importante del misterio o esconden un secreto. O, en caso de Claire tienen dos de tres. También me gusto que el autor tuviera ese toque exacto de romanticismo, sin poner el romance entre Serena y Stride por delante de todo.

Podían trabajar en los casinos, pero no apostar. Eran religiosos en una ciudad sin Dios. Le parecía extraño y algo hipócrita, como si un camarero de un bar pensara que beber es malo pero no le importara ver que otros se remojaban la garganta con venenos

Very good. I didn't take two weeks to read it because I couldn't get into it, it was just that I had no time. I am enjoying the series and have already requested the next one from the library.

Nie znoszę książek z wątkami i motywami mafii. Nie przepadam za książkami z akcją osadzoną w Las Vegas. Wyjątkowo nie ciekawią mnie również kasyna w powieściach. Teoretycznie więc czytanie „Rozebranej” powinno być dla mnie męką i udręką, drogą przez piekło. I owszem, prawdopodobnie tak by było gdyby nie to, że autorem powieści jest diabelnie zdolny Brian Freeman. To już moje trzecie spotkanie z twórczością amerykańskiego pisarza i trzecie nad wyraz satysfakcjonujące. Opowieść o na pozór niezwiązanych ze sobą morderstwach przypadkowych osób łączących się w jakiś sposób z mająca miejsce kilkadziesiąt lat wcześniej tajemniczą i niewyjaśnioną śmiercią luksusowej tancerki z klubu nocnego pochłonęła mnie kompletnie. To niezwykle inteligentnie i skrupulatnie usnuta intryga, naszpikowana zawiłościami i mylącymi tropami. Akcja mknie w szaleńczym tempie, a jednak Freeman znalazł i miejsce na precyzyjne nakreślenie tła społecznego i politycznego, a także na rozwinięcie prywatnych wątków bohaterów znanych już z poprzednich części serii. Tak więc „Rozebrana” posiada wszystkie cechy, aby nazwać ją kryminałem perfekcyjnym. Freeman bez dwóch zdań powinien być jednym z najgłośniejszych nazwisk w tym gatunku literackim. Coś czuję, że bardzo możliwe, że w końcu znalazłam godnego następcę Michaela Connelly’ego. A, że dla mnie Connelly to absolutny mistrz i król kryminałów, autor, który ani razu jeszcze mnie nie zawiódł, który nigdy nie schodzi poniżej pewnego (bardzo wysokiego) poziomu i za każdym razem dostarcza przenikliwą i inteligentną, w pełni przemyślaną intrygę kryminalną z bogatym tłem społeczno-psychologicznym, to takie słowa uznania pod adresem Freemana to z moich ust największy komplement.

Tagline: Everyone keeps secrets in Vegas. Especially about murder...
My first thought: If you kill someone, would you want to tell everyone about it? Okay, so maybe only the show-off lunatics will.
However, after finishing the book, I thought it was kinda ... err ... pervert. Honestly. A non-op transsexual (all-woman except for the genitalia.get the picture?), lesbian, horny detectives, showgirls and so on. The setting of the story is in Las Vegas, so I guess it kinda justify it(?) Anything happens in Vegas, no?
It's an average read. I'll trade it for a Jonathan Kellerman anytime.

This was a super thriller to read. Just when you thought you had the whole story, you really didn't. Highly recommended!

The second book in the series by Brian Freeman did not grab me like the first one. It is based in Las Vegas, not Duluth, MN. But.. it did keep me reading to figure out who did what. As with the first book he really starts putting all of the puzzle pieces together at the end, yet still keeps just one piece till the very end that ties everything together. It is an important book in the series as I can see now how important it will be to the next book... which I'll be starting shortly.
Just because this book isn't as good as the first, don't skip it. I have a feeling you'll want to know the history of what occurred in book 2 when you read book 3.
