I am writing this review after a while since I've read this book which is probably a bad idea because I don't remember much. But I think that's the problem with this book, the plot was so messy and so boring at times that I don't even remember what happened anymore. The switch from really enjoying Warcross to reading this was bad. Like it started off great and I was excited to see what would happen and then nothing was happening and I got bored. Getting to the ending was baad like if someone quizzed me on what the hell happened in the end I would fail. I actually had no idea what was going on and the like the whole ending was questionable and I was just speeding to finish the book. Like what makes Emika knowledgeable enough to be hired and then turn into a CEO because she was lowkey useless the whole book. I also never got over the fact that Hideo killed so many people with his algorithm and it seem like he never cared. His punishment was just house arrest in his mansion like thats not a punishment. But also like I loved the romance in the first book but in this book I was just confused on why Emika still loved him after the way he acted with her and all the things he did. I stopped rooting for this relationship. Anyways, this book was a mess.

[4/5]
Yeehaw, I've finished it! Last year when I read Warcross, I was shook™ because it was so good. After reading the Legend series, I became iffy about Marie Lu's writing. I know she wrote the series when she was fifteen, but sTILL! So when I read Wildcard, I could tell that she still had that same style scattered throughout her current writing. It shone through in those sMexY scenes. The only reason I don't have this book rated 3.5/5 is because of a certain plot twist:
SpoilerWe all already knew that Zero was Hideo's brother, Sasuke. We didn't know that he ceased to exist. Apparently, this woman, Taylor, who is running some secret organization discovers a way to seperate mind and body to achieve immortality. She did something despicable; she tested this on children. When Sasuke disappears, he's actually living in a facility [Hideo's mother worked at this facility I-] that is trying out that immortality theory. Taylor managed to compete the process of mind-body separation. Unfortunately, Sasuke dies because of it. The Zero we see in the books is a fully artificial, controlled version of Sasuke. His entire mind/soul is stored in computers and controlled by Taylor.
it was actually unexpected. That plot twist sealed the deal. The ending, I'd say, was not that surprising. It's still good, okay. Read it.

This is my review of the whole duology because I read both books within two days of being lent them.

Overall- this series was pretty good. Frustrating at times, but good nonetheless.

I thought the world of Warcross and the plot twists in Wildcard in particular were well written. It was interesting to see how Lu built her world of virtual reality, it's impacts on everyday life, it's economic effects and the game of Warcross itself. The scenes when a battle in a Warcross world was happening were really cool to read.

The way the dark world was incorporated into the story building was fun to read as well.

The parts that grated on me involved Hideo. After the first book had concluded- I was really annoyed at him. I was thinking that the plot twist at the end of book 1 would be something great. That it would establish Hideo as the morally grey anti-hero I was expecting. Instead- I was left viewing Hideo as an idiot. I just- I don't even know what he was thinking. If he was thinking at all.

Rest-assured, things do get better. I'm not really sure why but by the end of Wildcard, Hideo had been redeemed in my mind. Although I did feel some dissatisfaction about the way things ended with Hideo and Henka games and Emika's role in everything there.

There were so many things I really did love about this duolody though. I loved the little subplot of Tremaine and Roshan. I loved how the mystery of Zero unraveled. I loved Emika as a character. At then end- I even loved Emika and Hideo together.

Their relationship didn't consume the plot- but it was there and it was enjoyable for the most part.

I would say that the Warcross duology is worth reading.

Once I finally got into this I really enjoyed it. I do think this duology should have been published in one book. I feel we lost something y dividing it in two. So if you get a chance, try to read them back to back. Over all though, it was a good story. Tears were definitely shed near the end!

This book is an absolute MASTERPIECE of a final novel. I liked Warcross, but I loved Wildcard. It is a constant stream of surprising twists and a perfect conclusion for these characters. I cried a little too much, but this series has wormed its way into my heart. Can't wait for the day I get to reread these!

So, I LOVED Warcross. But sadly, this book- it did not deliver AT ALL on the promises made in the first book. It was kind of a muddled mess.

I don't get why the Spanish translation changes the name from Wildcard to Wardraft, although in this second book there's no Wardraft. There's also basically 400 pages of almost nothing, because it is true that the plot twist is quite nice and unexpected, the writing is sloppy and very uninteresting. Awful writing from Marie Lu, which is kind of surprising because I remember other books I've read from her not from this saga aren't too bad. So yeah. Disappointing. Awful storyline and characters
